  • Innovations by Bonide for controlling pests, weeds and fertilizing your yard.

On-Site Listener:

Segment 2 (running time 6:32)

Listen to this segment

On-Site Listener:

  • Christina - How can she get rid of white flies around her porch?

Recommendation - Keith walks through several options Bonide can provide her and how to safely apply products for the best results.

Callers:

  • Roger - He has several large eucalyptus trees that were damaged recently. Should he leave it or make a clean cut and seal it up?

Recommenation - Make a clean cut and seal it to prevent bugs and insects from moving in to eat away at the tree.

  • Mary - She wants to know about drip irrigation and how much water should she bring to trees that she can't reach with a hose?

Recommendation - There are a lot of factors that go into that quesiton; how big is the tree? How much water is emitting through the drip system per hour, etc. Slow deep watering is best for trees, but she'll need to do some calculations to know the answer.

Segment 3 (running time 13:26)

Listen to this segment
  • Tips on transitioning to a winter lawn in the desert.
  • When Seed Cover should be used.
  • Common mistakes homeowner's make with their lawns.

Callers:

  • John - He's got a problem with house flies on his patio. What can he use?

Recommendation - Keith says to go with "Eight" by Bonide.

  • Elaine - She wants to know how to harvest a pecan and when?

Recommendation - It's still a little early and in lower elevations, the harvest time is closer to December. The higher elevation pecans will turn sooner.

  • Carl - He just planted a few desert trees and has some irrigation questions. Where the dripper should go and how much?

Recommendation - Since they are new, go with every other day and then taper it back. Keith walks him through the steps and recommends putting the dripper on the surface so you can tell if there's an issue.

On-Site Listener:

  • Patty - She planted a tree that hasn't grown at all and wants to know if she should relocate the tree?

Recommendation - After 3 years, it will be best to just start over. There are plenty of problems that can cause the slow growth. Just make sure to take more precautions to protect the trunk this time around.

Segment 4 (running time 5:53)

Listen to this segment

Caller:

  • Jack - He wants to know how well an orchid tree can do in this area?

Recommendation - Desert varities do well in this year, but some more exotic varieties can struggle. Frost is the biggest danger to these trees.
