Jeff from Harper's Nursery & Landscaping Company joins the broadcast to talk about your yard, landscape and garden.
Tip of the Week: It's time to fertizlize in February! It's also a great time to apply pre-emergent herbicide to keep those weeds out of your yard.
*Beware of some planting veggies that still might freeze.
Julie with the Arizona Farm Bureau is in-studio today too and she talks about some awards they've given out recently.
Caller:
Recommendation - Yes, February is time to fertilize roses.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation - The best trick is keeping your trees healthy. Make sure the soil is healthy, add fertilizer and make sure you're watering correctly. He could add grub control into the holes to try and eliminate the beetles that are there.
Recommendation - There is no season that is better than another. We discuss it and Romey likes MoleMax from Bonide.
Caller:
Recommendation - That is just tough to answer. If they are healthy and huge, it's a lot. If it's unhealthy or small....expect less.
*We discuss the Green Valley area and all the pecan trees in Arizona.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation - Yes! Jeff talks through his opinion and preferences.
Recommendation - It has become very difficult and Jeff thinks laws are preventing the trees from being brought into the state. Romey says to check out Elgin Nursery & Tree Farm.
Email From a Listener:
Recommendation - It could help, but if he doesn't sell by May, the lawn will die out anyway.
Recommendation - Jeff would suggest a tree spade company and he'll give her a few suggestions.
Text From a Listener:
Recommendation - Scottsdale has specialty shops that will have them and you can always ask your grocery store where they came from.
*Julie talks about the increased labeling Arizona farmers are doing. We also talk about the dairy industry in the state. Remember that you can find great recipes at Fill Your Plate's site.

Caller:
Recommendation - Tucson is big on coatings, but depending on the age of the roof, the answer changes. If it's a new roof, leave it. He might void the warranty. Rosie talks through a situation that might be an okay time to do it. He can call Lyons Roofing or West Coast Roofing for their professional opinion.
Rosie talks about Rosie On The House Remodeling and what they are seeing in the industry.
Caller:
Recommendation - The opening is a scupper hole...we'll continue in the next segment.
We continue to answer Betty's question about her roof....
Recommendation - Rosie talks through how this roofing setup works. She can install a galvanized steel scupper liner to protect her wall from any further damage. She needs to get the water off the roof, so it doesn't sit on top of the stucco, damaging the wall.
Callers:
Recommendation - He doesn't have experience in either, so Rosie asks a few questions. It's easier to talk through painting rather than tile, but either one needs a lot of prep work so it can be tough on both. Rosie is going to stop by to give him recommendation and we'll put up the first $250.00 for materials!
Recommendation - This is a tough job! We don't recommend putting a 3-tab shingle under a tile roof...that's usually overkill. Rosie would put down a layer of 15 lb roofing felt, than a layer of 30 lb felt, than add a cap sheet (90 or 100lb) sheet. Listen to make sure the specifics are correct. For opinions, he can call the experts....Pinnacle Roofing, Lyons Roofing & Durafoam Roofing.
Caller:
Recommendation - Start with a pressure wash and then allow it to dry. Get all the lose sand and debris out of the cracks. He can even use a putty knife to knock out all the lose stuff. Rosie will spread in an elastomeric textured caulk in the cracks. If it's textured, get the heaviest texture he can buy and then take a coarse sponge and dob it to match the surrounding texture. Make sure he backrolls the paint and he should be good to go. We recommend using PPG Pittsburg Paints!
