Segment 1 (running time 11:59)

Listen to this segment

Romey is live from John Eisenhower's home! He's the owner of Integrity Tree Service and is part of the Real Gardens for Real People Tour.

  • Details on the event & what you can learn when you join the tour.
  • Each stop has a different expert and you can even learn about chickens.
  • It's planting season. John & Romey discuss what to plant and fertilization too.

Letter From a Listener:

  • Betty - She has a swan hill olive tree and wants to know if it's too late to spray the tree to prevent olives from producing.

Recommendation - She has another 2 weeks or so to get it done. John has the ability to get it done, so call Integrity Tree Service.

*Pricing expectations for different tree varieties and sizes.

Segment 2 (running time 6:50)

Listen to this segment

Caller:

  • Diane - The fruit on her pomegranite tree has "white stringy seeds" in the last four years. What could be causing it?

Recommendation - This is unusual and it could be caused by the block wall her neighbor put in. It will take a site visit or a picture an arborist can take a look at.

Segment 3 (running time 12:13)

Listen to this segment

Callers:

  • James - He bought a lime tree from Harper's Nursery & Landcsaping Company and he'd like to start shaping it into a tree and wants to know if this is the time of year to do it?

Recommendation - Rick with Stillwater Landscape Management joins the crew to help answer the question. With the bush only being 2 feet tall, "let it be a bush for a while." He'd wait until it was about 4 feet tall and then be very careful. The longer you let it be a bush, the faster it will grow. The guys go into great detail and is worth the listen.

  • Susan - She has a lemon tree in a pot and it's doing well. She used a whiskey barrel and it is starting to disintegrate. Can she use flag stone around it and build up the soil around it.

Recommendation - Rick likes the idea, but make sure that the rootball stays the same depth. If you bury the tree deeper than it already is, it could damage the tree. We discuss several options for Susan.

  • Brian - He wants to put in a Texas Olive Tree. How big should he expect it to grow and how will it look yearround at his elevation?

Recommendation - He can expect it to grow to about 15 feet wide at most. They're not a dirty tree, but it will leave minimal litter compared to other trees. They're a slow growing tree, so don't expect it to shoot up in the fist year or two.

*Tips on protecting fig trees and how to maximize your fruit output.

Segment 4 (running time 7:36)

Listen to this segment

Texts From Listeners:

  • Wayne - His bermuda grass is already coming up through his rye grass. What can he do?

Recommendation - This happens due to the natural conditions, but he can do certain things to change the conditions. John thinks he should call Think Green Irrigation & Landscaping for some tips.

  • His plum tree has not grown in 2 years...what can he do?

Recommendation - It could just be a bad root stock from the nursery. John thinks the tree could have been planted too deep too. John describes how it should look and what you can do to make sure it's not suffocating the root ball.

  • Cynda - She wants to plant a tree about 16 feet away from a septic tank. Do we have any suggestions and where to plant it?

Recommendation - It should be fine at 16 feet, but she could use a root barrier near the tank if she's truly concerned.

*It's treatment time for trees, so listen as John talks you through some common issues here in Arizona.

Remember, you can always reach John during the week at Integrity Tree Service.

Segment 1 (running time 13:06)

Listen to this segment

As the summer heat approaches, the biggest cause for high utility bills is leaky windows & doors. We've got the experts, Matt Lakko & Don Foster from Pella Windows & Doors here to take your questions!

  • Creating "An Envelope" at your home to insulate us from outdoor temps.
  • Understanding the "Base Load" of electricity at your home in March & October.
  • How Pella transformed their business into a company that offers windows & doors for every price point.
  • Use your money wisely when it comes to being energy efficient.
  • Past "sins" in window construction.

Caller:

  • Steven - Checking in from St. Louis, Missouri! He's streaming the show and he has vinyl siding on his home. He wants to know what we think of aluminum siding.

Recommendation - Rosie isn't a fan of vinyl siding and aluminum siding can dent. We love the cement wood-formed siding. It's tough, can be painted and applied in a few different ways.

Segment 2 (running time 5:43)

Listen to this segment
  • Single pane, double pane....triple pane? Different glazing options for different applications.
  • R-Value and U-Value meanings and how to appy them.
  • Low-E options to keep the heat out in the summer!

Caller:

  • Carol - Her friends home has double paned vinyl windows and .......we'll pick it up in the next segment.

Segment 3 (running time 13:25)

Listen to this segment

.......more with Carol about her friends home......several bedrooms are too hot to sleep in. What is it the windows or the AC?

Recommendation - Rosie will investigate this himself, but he thinks it's multiple reasons that's causing it. He'll visit this home, personally, and share his thoughts on increasing the homes comfort.

  • More glazing options & what triple pane systems are good for.
  • Combating noise in your home with windows and different glass widths.

Callers:

  • Dan - 3 windows in his home have lost their seal in between the dual pane windows. Does he really need to replace the windows or can he just replace the glass?

Recommendation - Not necessarily. Some companies can simply replace the glass. He can call Jeff at Triple E Construction.

*Combating windows after the seal is broken and it gets dirty between the panes.

  • Jim - What are our thoughts on solar screens on double pane windows?

Recommendation - Choosing the right windows with the correct Low-E coating, you can avoid adding sun screens that limit visibility. We share when they're a good application and the proper way to put them up. Spline should be out!

  • Jay - The plastic "Glass Block" has a leak. Is there a way to fix it that without replacing the whole opening?

Recommendation - It will require the whole opening to be taken out and replaced, so he'll have to decide if he can deal with the staining issue while the rest deteriorates. Just an FYI, glass block windows are NOT as energy as efficient as you'd think they are.

Segment 4 (running time 6:25)

  • Utility versus Aesthetics in choosing a surface.

Segment 2 (running time 6:42)

Listen to this segment

Callers:

  • Joe - He is about to install laminate flooring over a concrete slab. He has a 14 foot crack in the concrete. Does he need to do anything for that?

Recommendation - Yes. He'll need to treat it for termites. Call Action Termite Control and get that treated 1st. Then, he'll need to fill the crack with a non-expanding grout. Rosie talks through ways to make sure the floor is level enough to put a new surface on it.

  • Brad - He has a travertine tile shower and wants to make sure he is treating it correctly. What should he be using?

Recommendation - We would clean it thoroughly and reseal it with a prodcut called 5-11 Impregnator Sealor and you can pick it up at any hardware store.

  • Greg - He has granite countertops and one side has settled and is off by a 1/16th of an inch and is driving his wife nuts!

Recommendation - We'll take it on in the next segment.

Segment 3 (running time 13:08)

Listen to this segment

Continuing with Greg....

Recommendation - Casey digs into his situation and the glue might not have dried correctly. It will take an expert eye to see what's happening and how it  fix it. Breaking a granite countertop will cost big $$$.

  • How stone is polished and the limitations with fixing some imperfections.

Caller:

  • Mike - He has a triple bull nose on his counter and he can't stand it. Is there a way to grind it down and make it look more like a modern squared edge?

Recommendation - It is possible, but realy messy. If the laminate is really thick, it could be an issue to cut it down. This would take a real expert to get it done and to make it look good. The cost could make it unreasonable compared to a new countertop.

*We talk about what homeowner's can expect to see at Aztec Granite & Marble's Showroom.
