Jay from Harper's Nursery & Landscaping Company is here to take your questions!
- Before we get to the tip, Jay & Rosie give us an update on their water reduction pact they started over the summer. Did they get to a 10 percent reduction!?!?
- Remember to adjust your irrigation system over winter. This is a huge waste of water every winter and Jay talks through all the things you can use to reduce waster waste.
Tip of the Week: If you have frost damage, leave it alone. It will protect the plant from even further damage.
Text from a Listener:
- Mike - How often should a burmuda lawn be watered during the winter season?
Recommendation - Sometimes never, but if it gets too dry, go with once a month.
Caller:
- Nancy - She planted 5 mesquite trees about a year ago. One was damaged and isn't growing as quickly now. Should she pull that one tree out and start over or keep treating it?
Recommendation - It might be a good idea, but she could fertilize it and treat it, but it's hard to know without looking at it. It could simply be genetics or the soils.

Text From a Listener:
- Karen - Will a soaked fabric cloth that freezes and is left on the plant do more damage?
Recommendation - It shouldn't and moisture will actually help keep the plants warm and Jay talks about how it all works.

Jay & Romey talk about "green" gift ideas you could pick up at a nursery.
Text From a Listener:
- Bill - His 3 year old lime tree produces very small oranges on the bottom. How long until he sees larger limes?
Recommendtion - It's probably the graft that is pushing through some shoots that are sour orange and Jay would prune them back to keep them from competing with nutrients from the lime tree.
