Segment 1 (running time 11:38)

John Jay from Harper's Nursery & Landscaping Company is here to talk about your yard!

Tip Of The Week:  The peak of summer heat is here and it's time to prepare the garden for veggies!  Weed the garden, turn the soil, add Hickman's Family Farms Farms Choice Compost. Do it over the next few weekends before it's time to get planting again.

**It's also clost to transition time from summer to winter lawns, but we've had an unsual spring, so Jay describes your options.

  • Jeff from Stotz Equipment is here and we discuss how to choose the right lawnmower for your home.
  • Blade size, deck size and configurationg versus lawn size and budget.

Segment 2 (running time 7:08)

  • Jay describes what you can plant right now and what should wait until it cools off a bit more.
  • How long do you have to wait for a seed to turn into fruit?
  • What kind of budget should you set aside for a quality mower.

Segment 3 (running time 12:36)

Caller:

  • Carly - She has several succulant plants in planters on her patio, but they're not doing well right now. What does Jay think?

Recommendation - There are several succulants that don't do well in the heat and some are overwatered too. Jay has several selections for a healthy, living patio.

*Just remember some plants are not here for a reason!

More on mowing:

  • Riding Lawnmower's
  • Avoiding damage to your irrigation system.
  • Stotz Equipment history and locations.

Callers:

  • Mark - His garden was destroyed by bugs and he wants advice on putting something down before he replants so this won't happen again.

Recommendation - He can put down diatomaceous earth, but without knowing what bugs are there, he can't get too specific.
**Another option that might work is Bonides' Captains Jacks' Deadbug Brew.

  • Tom - He just planted a plumb tree and he's seeing bright yellow leaves once in a while and they're breaking off when he touches. He was told to use a triple action spray from someone in his area. It didn't help. Now what?

Recommendation - Without seeing it, Jay thinks it sounds like it's got a drainage issue or an overwatering issue. Add gypsum or soil sulfer for the next few months, plus a mulch to cool the soil down.

Segment 4 (running time 6:42)

  • We talk "container gardens" & when/where it's practical for you.

Caller:

  • Carol - She has spurge all over her yard and this is even after she killed all of it once along with her yard. She's lost. What should she do?

Recommendation - She needs to get rid of the spurge seeds too and there is a product called quincept that won't kill the grass too. With 90 percent spurge, she's probably best to start over than use pre-emergent herbicides to stop it before it starts.

Thanks to Jeff from Stotz Equipment for stopping by to talk lawnmower's!

If you have questions for Jay or need to pick up a few plants, stop in at Harper's Nursery & Landscaping Company.

Segment 1 (running time 11:51)

Dan King with Harmon Solar is here to talk about all the changes in their industry!

**Rosie shares the incredible amount of energy the sun provides in dollar figures.

  • How does Dan go about deciding what is best for your situation when it comes to installing panels at your home.
  • What about tax credits?
  • More changes coming in the next few weeks. (grid access charge increase)
  • There's a "Rosie Special" offered on show day only... Listen Live!

Segment 2 (running time 6:48)

Callers:

  • Liam - He's very interested in solar panels, but wants to know if it's right for him.  He has two stories and wants to know if different utility companies have different rules.

Recommendation - The 2 stories are not an issue and Dan installs them all the time. Unfortunately he has SRP power and their recent changes aren't great for solar customers.

**Dan & Rosie talk about the changes SRP made and what it means to customers.

Segment 3 (running time 12:07)

*More "Mind-Blowing" facts about the outer space from Rosie.

Caller:

  • Priscilla - She's on a fixed income and wants to know if Dan can help her....She cares about Mother Earth, but she cares about her wallet more.

Recommendation - Of course they can, she needs a site visit to determine if it is a good fit for her situation.

  • Commercial Solar uses and who pays for it.
  • Schools, Churches and other Applications.

Caller:

  • Tim - He moved into a neighborhood that comes with pre-installed solar system and it sounds too expensive for what was promised. Does Dan think he's getting enough out of the system? And what about payoff time?

Recommendation - It does sound slightly high on price, but the overall kilowatts he's getting from the system is about what Dan would expect. With tax credits and other factors into the equation, the net cost of Tim's system seems reasonable.

*How using on-peak power consumption versus off-peak effects your costs.

Segment 4 (running time 6:06)

Callers:

  • John - He knows that the solar industry is subsidized and with our national debt, does Dan still think it's still worth it?

Recommendation - Just remember almost every energy source is subsidized, so take advantage if you can.

  • Paul - APS is giving a credit for installing their panels on his roof...

Recommendation - This is an option and it might be right for you.  It's more of a research and development situation, but do the research and make sure it will save you money.

*Each utility company has different rates, different programs and you'll just need to make sure you're informed.  In Tucson, call The Solar Store. Green Valley, call Southwestern Solar. In Phoenix & want to know if solar is right for you.....contact Harmon Solar!

Segment 1 (running time 12:49)

2015 07 25 arizona republic vertical livingWe're talking "High Rise Living" and we share the small experiences the crews had with this type of lifestyle.

View our entire article on vertical living: https://www.rosieonthehouse.com/faqs/vertical-living-on-the-rise

  • Pros and Cons.
  • What about Animals?
  • Kids?
  • What about grocery stores?
  • What about schools?

Rosie talks about the state of the housing industry. Remember, Galaxy Lending Group!

Segment 2 (running time 6:00)

Callers:

  • Jim - He called in to tell Rosie that he had the same high rise experience & they lived in the same dorm at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado!
  • Kimberly - She used to live in a high rise in downtown Phoenix and she called in to talk about her experiences.

Segment 3 (running time 13:05)

Rosie talks about some specials for today only from Sanderson Ford and Harmon Solar.

Caller:

  • Back to Kimberly and her experiences living in a high rise.
    • Where she moved from and why.
    • Would she move back or not?
    • She had dogs, rabbits and lived on the 8th floor. Lots of good parts of this lifestyle for her.
  •  Scott - He's considering the spray in foam insulation and wants our advice.

Recommendation - Rosie investigates and asks Scott to consider these factors. Whoever installs this needs to be experienced. There should be no moving air, the blow-in insulation needs to be taken out and the space should be clean. Call Banker Insulation for an estimate.

  •  Gary - He's having an issue with a fireplace. The smoke is not exhausting properly and whenever it's used the house fills with smoke.

Recommendation - It sounds like this was installed in the 70's when homes were being sealed up too tightly. It needs a fresh air intake to balance the pressure in the home. That should eliminate the need to crack a window everytime it's used. Call Arizona Chimney Sweep!

Segment 4 (running time 6:44)

Caller:

  • Roger - He heard us talking about the fireplace and he has a fresh air intake through the bottom of the house and eliminated the need for opening a window. He's lived in a high rise and will probably end up back there again when he gets older. Privacy is an issue, but you might need some extra help as you get older anyway.
