Tip of the Week:  It's time to plant!  Arizona is unique and Jay talks through why it's a great time to plant now.

  • Plants have time to establish themselves before the next summer heat wave.
  • Soils are still warm, but the air is cooler and plants can thrive.
  • Get those winter veggies in the ground. Jay talks about spreading out the harvest.
  • Trees, shrubs and flowers can all go in the ground.
  • The only plants to hold off on woud be the frost sensitive plants. (even those can go in, but you have to protect them if it freezes)
  • Details on planting winter lawns.
  • Rosie "Outsmarting Birds" in his yard and Jay's expert advice.

  • We continue with Steve - His parents were in their RV and now live in a 100 year old home and were concerned the home would shake off it's foundation and he was outside and saw all the trees start moving. He describes their experience. 

*Luckily, the Rock Springs Cafe pies were NOT damaged in the earthquake.

  • Art - His wife thought someone threw something on the roof and it bounced around and he describes an earthquake in the mid 1930's that he lived through. Great story and Rosie and Art talk about his upbringing in Arizona. 
  • Jim - His first day on the job at Boeing in Seattle in 1965 an earthquake occured and he gives a scary description living through it. He's a great story teller.  "Concrete Can't Bend?.?.? Oh, yes it can!"

Rosie just returned from a trip getting together with contractors across the country and building is exploding, especially in Seattle, WA.

  • Christie - She was in her bad writing scary stories and felt the earthquake. Talk about scary!
  • David - Back in 1992, his neighborhood all felt it....most of them had drywall damage. He also reminds us that Europe feels earthquakes all the time. We are so spoiled with weather in this state. (I'm guessing we wouldn't be so eager to agree if this show were in the middle of August. Ha!)

Renting:

  • Does all the things we talked about today mean you should rent instead of buy? Nah.
  • If you can, investing in rental property might be a great opportunity.
  • Short or Long-term renters?
  • Remember renters, you do have ways to protect yourself from slumlords.

Recommendation - He's not aware of the process, but Rosie knows about it and it started in Tucson. We aren't sure if it's a good idea, but the company has been in business for several years so call and ask for referrals before you go forward.
