Segment 1 (running time 12:00)

Listen to this segment

In-Studio with John Jay from Harper's Nurseries & Landscaping Company!

Also joined by Tim Freeland with Arizona Trellis. We're talking sheds and what can you do with your landscape to improve the looks around a shed in the backyard. How about an iron trellis for plants to grow up?

  • They're made of iron and wil last forever!! It's not the wood version that doesn't last here in the desert.
  • Create plant screens to block heat, sound or ugly views...

Caller:

  • Tony - His olive tree has black and brown spots on the back of the leaves and has no idea what it is?

Recommendation - It sounds like it could be mold or a fungus after the heavy rains during the monsoon season.

Segment 2 (running time 6:48)

Listen to this segment

We share local events from Local First Arizona and Rosie jumps in to talk about......you guessed it, food!  We sample barbecue from OKB and love it!

We hope you didn't miss the Phoenix Tour de Coops. Our friends from Flower Street Urban Gardens were the last stop.

Callers:

  • Amelio - All three of the trees in his backyard are all dying at the same time and he's lost.

Recommendation - With 3 different types of trees all suffering, something clearly happened in that area to cause the problem. (Pool drained, gas leak, soil conditions, etc.)

Segment 3 (running time 12:30)

Listen to this segment

Happy Veteran's Day to our listener's!

The crew discuss options for using a trellis with Tim from Arizona Trellis.

  • Block oncoming traffic light and sound.
  • What types of plants are best for different uses.

Reminder......Fall is the best time to plant. The stress from all the heat is gone and it gives your plants all winter to establish a solid root system before the stress of an Arizona summer.

*We break down winter lawns....it's not too late to reseed!

Caller:

  • Michael - He removed an oleander bush in his backyard and wants to know what to do keep it from coming back. He also has a pruning question.

Recommendation - Oleander is really really tough plant and Jay's seen them grow back even after a fire. There's not much he can do, so just go ahead with the new plants and remove the shoots as they come up.  Winter is not the best time to prune. Wait until spring!

Segment 4 (running time 6:52)

Listen to this segment

Romey and Tim with Arizona Trellis talk about all the different things they can do at your home and Jay shares his favorite vines to grow over a trellis.

Did you know you can grow a watermelon or squash on a vertical trellis?.?  It's true!

Thanks to Jay with Harper's Nurseries & Landscaping Company!

Segment 1 (running time 12:34)

Listen to this segment

We wish our veteran's a great weekend over this Veteran's Day weekend!

Donna from Water Use It Wisely joins us In-Studio to talk about new events and promotions you can join!

  • Have your kids or grandkids try out a few games. Click here. (They'll learn too!)
  • We talk about how Arizona's forefather's planned for water useage that we're still benefitting from today.
  • Even though we've planned well, it's still very important to conserve water as our population is still increasing.

As the holiday's approach, Ken with Data Doctor's share his recommendations on keeping your data safe as you shop.

  • Biggest Tip!!!!  Use your Credit Card, NOT a debit card.  If the money is gone from your bank account, it's gone forever. A credit card has options to get your money back.
  • The local businesses using the mobile apps with a little swiper on their phone are very secure, so SHOP LOCAL!

Segment 2 (running time 6:15)

Listen to this segment

We continue with Water Use It Wisely and what you can do to cut down on your useage.

Click here for 100+ ways to conserve water at your home.  Remember, most of your water useage is outside, NOT inside.

  • Find and Stop leaks
  • Use energy efficient appliances around the home.
  • Conserve water for future generations and save $$$ on your utility bill.

Segment 3 (running time 12:09)

Listen to this segment

Callers:

  • Jim - He's hanging a chandelier and needs advice on wiring and how to shorten the welded chain to the proper height. He also wishes Grandpa Charlie a happy Veteran's Day back in Michigan!

Recommendation - Verify that the ceiling junction box is strong enough to hold the new weight. Add support if needed and just use bolt cutter's to snap the chain.

  • Nick - The pilot light in his water heater keeps going out and wants advice on fixing it or repairing it?

Recommendation - Rosie loves using gas for appliances in his home, but he "doesn't mess with it." It could be the electronic ignition & sanding down the tip could get it back up and running.  For help, call Thunderbird Plumbing.

  • Chris - She just moved into a home and had Rick with Thompson Drywall repair several cracks around his home. Now, there are cracks outside on the stucco. What should she do?

Recommendation - It sounds like thermal cracks from the framing, not a foundation issue. We'll investigate and work with her to find a solution.

Segment 4 (running time 7:13)

Listen to this segment

Callers:

  • Tom - He heard one of our callers asking about an issue with his water heater. He flushes his tank every year, but never feels confident and wants Rosie to walk through the process.

Recommendation - Listen as we break down the process. It can take 15 minutes or all weekend. It all depends on how much sediment is in the system. It's important to do this to prevent emergencies.

We thank Donna from Water Use it Wisely. Win a trip to Disneyland! Just play the game, here.

Segment 2 (running time 6:28)

Listen to this segment

We have fun correcting Rosie's English & Jennifer sets him straight on a few things!

Callers:

  • Greg - He's adding a patio cover to an existing slab and has questions on cutting off the eaves to tie into the existing roof.

Recommendation - Rosie gets technical and walks through the steps to assure a safe and water tight transition to the new roof.  Hint: Make sure the roof extends past the slab. You'll never be dissapointed with a larger roof.

Segment 3 (running time 11:40)

Listen to this segment

Caller:

  • Doris - She just installed a new garbage disposal and now her dishwasher won't drain.

Recommendation - It's a simple fix and a common mistake. There's a plug inside the disposal for her situation. Simply remove the hose attached to the disposal.  Next, take a hammer and a screwdriver to knock it out and simply fish out the plug and reconnect the house.

  • Marla - She has 3 different GFI outlets in the garage that don't work and wants advice on where to start.

Recommendation - Buy a circuit tester to verify what's not working, then replace any bad outlets. BE SAFE.....ELECTRICITY IS DANGEROUS!!!!

We play Trivia with Listener's:

  • Pam from Mesa - She takes a questoin on solar......How long does it take light to travel from the sun to earth?
