Segment 1 (running time 12:08)

Listen to this segment

Listen as the team gives great advice on what you really need to fix in your aging home.

  • Filling in sunken living rooms.
  • Issues that come with this project.

Caller:

  • Betty - She needs to replace the windows. Should she get vinyl or what type of frame do we reccomend? Plus, does she need to talk to the plaster guy 1st or the window guys 1st?

Recommendation - The right window installer should be able to work on the plaster themselves. We think she shoud call Pella Windows & Doors. They have all the options and different price points. We really like they're fiberglass (Impervia Line) products. Rosie talks through all the options.

Segment 2 (running time 6:38)

Listen to this segment

Callers:

  • Brandon - He blew fiberglass insulation into his roof after replacing a bunch of different types of existing insulation, but his home feels very humid now. What could it be?

Recommendation - Start with a whole house energy audit. He can contact REEis Air Conditioning & Home Performance or Green ID.

  • Arthur - His 4 foot wall is showing a crack and it looks like it's between the blocks and on both sides. Is there a way to cover it and not with just paint?

Recommendation - It's small enough that he can use a good elastomeric caulk with sand in it to match the texture. Spray it out with air and then feather in the caulk with a sponge. Listen to Rosie's description for the details.

Segment 1 (running time 11:59)

Here are some of our favorite callers from the last year.....

Callers:

  • Audrey - She is blind and plants for scent ("and some flashy color plants to make the sighted folks feel good") Recently, she was given a gardenia plant and arabian jasmine plant. She wants tips on mixing her fertilizer and when does the jasmine plant bloom?

Recommendation - The jasmine should start blooming about now and go through the summer months. Usually, it's a table spoon per gallon with the brand she's talking about.

*Jay and Audrey talk about a few other plants she could use for scent that do well in this area.

  • Lori - She has cracks in her foundation from the smaller earthquakes near Fountain Hills. At night now, she's hearing really load sounds.

Recommendation - We get a lot of this during this time of year. The big swings in temperatures during the day/night causes it. Rosie talks through warning signs with foundation issues, but she's probably okay.

  • Chuck - His French Door out to his patio is creaking so badly he can't stand it! What could be causing it?!

Recommendation - He gives us the live sound effect throught the phone. It's hilarious and we can hear it perfectly! We investigate and he has oiled it and then even put graphite powder in it. It sounds like a hinge squeak and Rosie would take the pins out one at a time to find out which one is making the sound. One is in a bind and causing the noise. He might need to replace all of the hinges and start over.
