Segment 1 (running time )

Listen to this segment

Talkin trees with Integrity Tree Service's John Eisenhower.

The tree of the month is the Phoenix Datoliphia date palm.  Regal, elegant looking and produce dates.  Different from fan palms.

Integrity Tree Service's Tree Calendar.  Care for your trees year round.

The palm tree has an interesting  root system anatomy.  One of the reasons it rarely will uproot and blow down in storms.

Time to prepare your trees for monsoon storms.  Trimming, pruning and reducing 'end weight' on the outer branches.

Example of 'end weight' are seed pods on mesquite and palo verde trees.  Removing them lightens the weight on the branches to prevent uprooting.

CALLER:  Has date palm pigmy plants in pots.  Wants to keep them in pots and told to perforate the bottom for drainage.

Segment 2 (running time )

Listen to this segment

John responds to the caller's potted palm plants.  Eventually they will be placed in landscape.

Caller has 2nd Question:  Needs to remove old roots from an African Sumac plant in the area when she wants to plant the palms.

Segment 3 (running time )

Listen to this segment

Besides the monsoon, John discusses other 'risk assessments' for trees.  Including arborists who can go thru a level of training for tree risk assessment qualification.  Lists examples of what they look for.

TEXT:  Needs to have 20 foot saguaro cactus' removed from backyard.  Note that saguaro cactus are protected under state law but John explains some exceptions.

Saguaros can be infected by bacterial necrosis.   Garry (producer) talks about his experience with having to take his saguaro down because it was infected.

CALLER:  Looking for suggestions of good privacy trees/plants after removing oleanders because the root system damaged the block wall.

Segment 4 (running time )

Listen to this segment

John describes some of the consulation services certified arborists perform at Integrity Tree Service.

Segment 1 (running time )

Listen to this segment

The topic of the hour is OUT-sulation.  What about putting rigid foam boards on the exterior of your home and spreading stucco over that? You may have heard the term "out-sulation" and maybe you wonder if that's the answer.

CALLER:  Has O'Hagen vents on a tile roof.  Underneath the dents, the insulation is blown all over and wants to know how to re-spread the insulation.

Rosie note about attic insulation:  Disturbing just 5% of a perfectly insulated attic can reduce its efficiency by 50%.

Using attic fans to remove heat doesn't work.  Rosie explains.

Segment 2 (running time )

Listen to this segment

Sun Screens, Awning, Extending The Roof, Shade Trees are more examples of OUT-sulation.

Something small that will cost significantly less than installing new windows or adding extra out-sulation and yet can have a big impact: insulating your outlets.

CALLER:  Has a thickness question about outsulation before installing stucco.

Romey has another suggestion for outsulation better than stucco called Enduramax High Performance Wall System

Segment 3 (running time )

Listen to this segment

Rosie taken to task on the term 'negative pressure'.

Romey compares Enduramax to Stucco.

Previous caller also wants to know thoughts about using an evap cooler to ventilate the attic.

CALLER:  Wants to reduce the temperature thermostat on his water heater and should he drain it.

CALLER:  Has an 8 year old house, R30-38 insulation in the house.  Garage not insulated.  Does it pay to have it redone?

CALLER:  Does it make sense to insert foam around windows in rooms not being used.

Segment 4 (running time )

Listen to this segment

CALLER:  When redoing insulation, do you take the old out first.

CALLER:  Has an 1940 adobe home and wants to install 5 inch baseboards.  Should you nail or nail and glue the baseboards on the adobe walls.
