Listen to this segment

A deep hour on origins of gravity, black holes and detecting ripples in time and space with Arizona St. Astrophysics Dr. Rogier Windhorst.

Scientists have directly detected gravitational waves — ripples in space-time — in addition to light from the spectacular collision of two neutron stars. This marks the first time that a cosmic event has been viewed in both gravitational waves and light.

The observatories are located in Washington and Louisiana.   L-shaped designed in measuring ripples leading to the merging of two black holes or neutron stars.

Understanding how this works using Einstein's E=mc2

Discussion on colliding black holes and a naturally occuring phenomenon called gravity.

Why the investment in research like this?  Benefits?

Explains his current project overseeing the launch of the next generation of the Hubble Telescope.

Segment 4 (running time )

Listen to this segment

Asks Dr. Windhorst if the size of the universe humbles, awes or inspire him.
