Talking Trees with John Eisenhower of Integrity Tree Service
The tree of the month is the Sweet Acacia Tree. Produces sweet scent blooms, rather small tree. Dark green leaf, dark brown bark.
Prune your citrus tree prudently. Don't over prune to expose the bark skin to sunlight. Could lead to sunburn.
John will teach classes on tree care at Desert Botanical Gardens
CALLER: Has a pine tree that sits in a desert landscape area with dying pine needles. Wants suggestion to save it. (John identifies it as an allepo pine)
Mulch suggestions for your trees. Rake up those falling leaves and start a compost pile.
Keep the mulch around the base of your tree to 1 to 2 inch layer. Don't bury the trunk.
The mulch should be away from the base a bit, not up against the tree base.
CALLER: Looking for a low maintenance tree that can take full sun, provide shade and little mess. Acacia Aneura & Texas Live Oak.
TEXT ?: Where to find tulle fabric to keep birds out of trees.
CALLER: Wants to know if he should trim on his own tree or call an arborist?
Integrity Tree Service is hiring!
Update on a couple of homeowner issues: how to prepare to close up your home as you leave for the summer, and scams that involve thieves trying to get your personal information.
Rosie tips for keeping your home safe when you're not home.
CALLER: Has a temporary rotten egg smell coming from a bathroom faucet or drain.
How To Fix An Interior Door That Doesn't Open/Close Properly
CALLER: Concerned about the APS rate increase and can it be adapted to super cooling.
CALLER: Has a door that doesn't shut completely when closed. It has a spring feature that automatically closes the door when opened.
CALLER: Preping for the APS rates, has two heat pumps. Considering putting timers on them to make sure they don't start at the same time.
Sal Sacado of DunRite Windows & Doors gets deep into details about replacing and installing windows and doors for residental homes.
Sal prefers 3 types of windows to install: fiberglass, fibrex or aluminum clad.
Fiberglass frames comes in various colors, stable, and resistant to UV.
More details on fibrex and aluminum clad windows.
Discussion on glazing packages. You don't necessarily need different glazing on windows depending on what parts of the home get more or less heat.
U factor: how much heat going out during the winter months. Solar heat gain factor: how much heat is transfering thru the glass. UV factor is the amount of heat reflecting off the glass.
There are many styles of installations. Stucco frame home example: little to no painting, stucco cut back and painting. Sal's 'jumping of the frame' is his least favorite.
Maximum glass area means replacing the entire window. Sal explains the technique.
What to look for if there are water leaks around the window frame.
More deep discussion on installation details.
Condensation in your window doesn't mean you need to replace the entire window. A good glass company can replace the glass and fix the issue.
