CEO Jim Cook of Western National Parks Association founded in 1938.   HQ in Tucson.

WNPA is an education partner of the National Parks Service providing books and other education materials, products and services.

Works with 71 National Park units.  National Parks have about 30 different designations.

Jim discusses whats involved in creating a National Park.

First Nation Park was Yellowstone under President GRANT!  

Early protection of national parks were under the guidance of Buffalo Soldiers.

Another noted park is the Hubble Trading Post National Park AZ  The person who was responsible for the park designation is 'Ned' Dansen, father of actor Ted Dansen.

Don Hubble was an entrepreneur who owned trading posts and help the Navajos establish this trading post by selling Navajo rugs in his posts.  Its still an active trading post.

Kids can become involved in the Junior Ranger Program

The tree of the month is the Sweet Acacia Tree.  Produces sweet scent blooms, rather small tree.  Dark green leaf, dark brown bark.

Prune your citrus tree prudently.  Don't over prune to expose the bark skin to sunlight.  Could lead to sunburn.

John will teach classes on tree care at Desert Botanical Gardens

Mulch suggestions for your trees.  Rake up those falling leaves and start a compost pile.

Keep the mulch around the base of your tree to 1 to 2 inch layer.  Don't bury the trunk.

The mulch should be away from the base a bit, not up against the tree base.

How To Fix An Interior Door That Doesn't Open/Close Properly

Sal prefers 3 types of windows to install:  fiberglass, fibrex or aluminum clad.

Fiberglass frames comes in various colors, stable, and resistant to UV.

Discussion on glazing packages.  You don't necessarily need different glazing on windows depending on what parts of the home get more or less heat.

U factor:  how much heat going out during the winter months.  Solar heat gain factor:  how much heat is transfering thru the glass.  UV factor is the amount of heat reflecting off the glass.

There are many styles of installations.  Stucco frame home example:  little to no painting, stucco cut back and painting.  Sal's 'jumping of the frame' is his least favorite.

Maximum glass area means replacing the entire window.  Sal explains the technique.

What to look for if there are water leaks around the window frame.

Condensation in your window doesn't mean you need to replace the entire window.  A good glass company can replace the glass and fix the issue.
