Recommendation - Corn glutten will work. It's expensive and takes a lot, but it will work.

Recommendation - Yes, Jeff pefers meyer lemons and he describes why.

Recommendation - There are several ways this can get into the container and Jeff talks through the ways the roots could be getting in and how to prevent it from getting in.

Recommendation - It is the product name & Jeff explains it and a few other examples of what they offer.

  • Is it safe for chickens?

Recommendation - Jeff says "yes" but make sure it's watered in first.  The product needs to bet below the soil so the chickens can't reach it.

Caller:

  • Sandra - She has grass in and around her dwarf grapefruit tree and her landscaper won't treat it because he's concerned it will kill the tree. What can she do?

Recommendation - She can treat it with a herbicide around the tree without killing it. She can spray the ground and not effect it. Just don't get it on the tree or leaves.

  • We move to the garden and talk through what you can be putting in the ground now and what you can be gettin ready too soon.

Recommendation - Yes! There are different types and Jeff talks through the right applications.

  • Carol - They just moved in from Indiana and brought black rasberry plants. Will they be able to plant them locally?

Recommendation - Yes! She can and just needs to find a good spot with lots of sun and some afternoon shade. Just don't expect them to grow like they did back in Indiana. We also discuss watering and the dormant time of year.

  • Roger - He's north of Williams and has no need to worry about pre-emergent! He's on his bobcat shoveling snow.......He was rubbing it in!

  • William - He has sissoo and was considering taking it out, but after hearing the nightmare stories they are going to just keep it. When should they trim it. 

Recommendation - Spring and summer is the best. They are pretty dormant right now, so hold off until later in the year.

Recommendation - We investigate the type he has and it should be a pretty easy replacement. Rosie describes how to remove it and that he can take it to a local irrigation store like Sprinkler World or Ewing Irrigation.

  • Jennifer - She was told she had a leak in her air conditioning last June. It's 14 years old. Does that sound right?

Recommendation - It's no surprise to have a 14 year old unit leaking, so we're going to have a Rosie-Certified expert take a look for confirmation.

  • Gene - He's had a light that quit working in his bathroom. How can he know if it's the fixture or the switch?

Recommendation - After investigating the type of light, Rosie describes how to test the amps. Listen to make sure you do this safely. Electricity is DANGEROUS! BE SAFE! Don't work on this unless you're comfortable.

*We discuss the fear of sticking your hand in the garbage disposal! Haha!

  • Ed - The plywood on his cabin on Mt. Lemon has paint that keeps peeling off every couple years. He's tried "deck paint" and several other methods, but can't seem to get it to stick.

Recommendation - He needs to get a pressure washer to remove the loose paint, then head to the nearest PPG Paints store to pick up a good primer.  Use 100 percent acrylic exterior paint and he should be able to get 5-6 years out of it.  Rosie talks through some of the challenges with plywood too and how to caulk the home correctly to avoid moisture.

  • Pauline - She lives in 60's era home. They are considering extending the dining room into the garage and adding an arcadia door and if it needs to be permitted?

  • Hilga - She is going to replace the flooring in her home and wants to know if she needs the flooring to go under the appliances? She's been told do it both ways.

Recommendation - After finding out it's vinyl, we would not put it up to the cabinets and to the front of the appliances, but not under either. It can be done both ways without a major issue, thought.

  • Rosie describes a "bathroom of the future" he recently saw and we discuss all the changes in technology.

Recommendation - Yes.  They do, but it is very critical to have an engineer do an analysis before anything is done. This would take a site visit, but it sounds like he's on the right track to getting it done correctly. It is doable, though. Be careful.
