Broadcasting from the Maricopa County Home & Garden Show at the Arizona State Fairgrounds!!

We're joined by Jay Harper with Harper's Nursery & Landscape Company

Tip of the week:  It's the first official weekend of fall!!! It's time to get those fall plants in and make sure the soil is prepared before you do. Fertilize, pre-emergent, fertilize, fertilize...

  • It's transition time.
  • We talk through transitioning your lawn.
  • You can do just about anything this time of year!

Also, joined by Mark with Easy Turf, installed by Sunburst Landscaping.  We discuss your options for low-maintenance options for a green lawn without all the work!

Callers:

  • Patricia - She has a busy schedule and wants to know if it's okay to wait until November before she re-seeds.

Recommendation - Waiting is absolutely okay. November is still a great time to transition your lawn.

Segment 2 (running time 5:55)

Listen to this segment

Callers:

  • Stephanie - She removed a sissou tree in her backyard and now there are suckers all across his lawn she can't get rid of.

Recommendation - Pulling them up by hand is the best way to go. It's time consuming but it's the best way to do it. Jay shares a few other options...but be careful!

  • Leonard - He wants to put in artificial turf, but wants to add sprinkler's.

Recommendation - You can do it, but adding irrigation underneath is risky if a leak ever shows up.

Segment 3 (running time 13:40)

Listen to this segment

we continue to discuss why adding irrigation under the artificial turf is risky....

**Mark gives an overall breakdown on artificial turf and how to cool the lawn, clean the lawn and make sure it's pretty and lasts a long time.

Upkeep is important:

  • Pets make a mess
  • Monsoons add dirt and dust

Callers:

  • Jerry - Should he power rake or thatch before he reseeds?

Recommendation - NO!  Just mow it short. Research shows that spring is the time to thatch.

Did you know you can install a putting green with Easy Turf!?!?

  • Cheryl - Her lawn is showing a lot of brown spots from her dogs. What can she do?

Recommendation - There's a product you can put in the pets food to eliminate some of the burning pet urine causes. Extra watering, re-training your pet to go somewhere else. There's just not a lot of options.

  • Barbara - A utility company trenched around her pine tree and she wants to know what to expect and what she can do to stop it.

Recommendation - 1st..run water over the trenches to compact the soil. Give the tree a good drink or two. She can treat with root stimulator. Find it at Green Valley Nursery,  or Civano's in Tucson.

Segment 4 (running time 5:32)

Listen to this segment

Callers:

  • Dale - He found slime mold in a utility box he's rebuilding. What can he do to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Recommendation - Treat the soil with soil sulfur and make sure that it's draining properly.

Thanks to Mark with Sunburst Landscaping (Easy Turf Artificial Turf) and Jay with Harper's Nursery.

Join us from Harper's Nursery next weekend!!!
