Listen to this segment
- Rosie & Kimber discuss a terrible new trend with the Big Box Stores (Lowe's, specifically) and how they're suing local communities for tax breaks and winning. This has led to the closure of local libraries, pools, etc. to pay for the subsidies given to mulch-millionaires from other states.
- Simply buying a faucet from local realtors makes a huge difference! Kimber promotes TruValue & Ace Hardware. They focus on impacting local communities. Big Box Stores....not so much!

We take your landscape and gardening questions with Jay from Harper's Nurseries & Landscaping Company!
Tip of the Week: The heat is finally here and this year we didn't have the normal buildup to the warmer temps. Change your watering patterns and Jay explains it for you!
Callers:
- Jay - His tomatoes have blossom end rot and he wants to know if there's something he can use to get rid of it?
Recommendation - It usually means it's a calcium deficiency and he can use a spray called Yield Booster & Blossom End Rot Preventer.
- Richard - They have a large eucalyptus tree in an area of a space they want to put in a block wall in the backyard. Will this be an issue?
Recommendation - With the tree already be established, the new wall should be fine. He also asked about tiles damaged from surface roots and he can change his watering habits to eliminate surface roots. (Deep watering = Deep Root System)
Segment 2 (running time 6:38)
Listen to this segment
Callers:
- Chris - He planted pumpkin seeds with his daughter, not expecting them to grow. Now they're growing and he wants advice on watering them to keep them alive.
Recommendation - He's a little early on planting them to have them mature for Halloween. Shade the plants & it'll take quite a bit of water. He'll need to keep an eye on them to make sure they look healthy.
- Lucille - She was told not to prune her Chilean mesquite, but now she can't walk under it. Can she trim it up at all?
Recommendation - It's okay to prune the lower branches and shape it into what she likes. The key is to not over-prune it. (No "Recreational Pruning")
Segment 3 (running time 12:18)
Listen to this segment
Callers:
- Karen - The tomatoes in her community garden have a lot of brown and yellow leaves. The watering is out of her control and she's wondering if there is anything she could do to prevent this.
Recommendation - Without seeing it, Jay thinks it's over-watered and possible lacking nutrients on the lower branches. Make sure the shade cloth isn't touching the plants.
- Ken - His sissou tree has suckers all over his lawn and he wants to get rid of them. What should he do?
Recommendation - Not much, unfortunately. He'll need to pull them out individually. He can water it extremely deeply to get the root system to go deeper into the soil. This will decrease the shoots on the surface.
*Jennifer gives some tips on controlling mosquito's. Go to the Arizona Department of Health Services to see if they use fog treatment in your area. Listen for tips on staying safe!
Segment 4 (running time 7:02)

Rosie shares a few stories...."I'm not trying to gross you out, but trying to scare you just a bit so you'll stay safe"
Callers:
- Carolyn - Her tile shower stall has glass doors and need to be replaced. She also wants to replace the handle, plus the caulking is in bad shape too..what do we recommend?
*Rosie has one more "scary story"
Segment 2 (running time 6:50)
Listen to this segment
- More stories about mishaps by the expert, Rosie. If Rosie is scared of electricity, that means you need to stay safe too. Jennifer makes him call The Mighty Electricians now!
- Using a circuit tester and a circuit indicator to make sure there is no electricity in an electrical box your working on. The bedroom can be tricky so be careful to make sure the electricity is actually off in each box.
Segment 3 (running time 12:39)
Listen to this segment
"Grandma Fix It" wrote in to say she had AC issues and a few other problems at her home, but then she heard Rosie's Grand kids singing...It lightened her whole mood!
Callers:
- Dan - His wife wants to plant a bougainvillea bush in the yard, but it's over a sewer line. Is that okay?
Recommendation - It should be no problem. He did mention that it was a home built in 1954, so it is possible that it has deteriorated and be an issue. We recommend calling a plumber with a camera line verify what type of piping it is. Call Stampede Plumbing, Babcock Plumbing or Thunderbird Plumbing.
- Scott - Some of the breakers in his electrical box need to be replaced. It doesn't look to tough. Is there a specific way he needs to do this to stay safe?
Recommendation - He's right. This isn't to tough of a job, but the chance of hurting yourself is very high risk. We don't recommend dealing with electricity unless you're 100 percent confident. He can call The Mighty Electricians.
- Phil - He has two older heat pumps that need to be replaced. There's a good air-flow reason it's better for him to put them on the roof. How would he know if the rafters can support the weight of a roof-mounted unit.
Recommendation - His current setup is more efficient, but he should be able to mount them on the roof. He'll need to check the rafter setup and the AC contractor should be able to determine that.
Segment 4 (running time 6:40)
Listen to this segment
Rosie shares a story about a recent "incident" that was a timely reminder about staying safe while your repairing or remodeling around your home.
(Ladder Safety Is A Serious Issue)
Callers:
- Peggy - The control panel on the outside of her garage isn't working anymore. What should she do?
Recommendation - It sounds like it could just be a bad battery. If that doesn't work, she can call Rosie partners, A-Authentic Garage.
- Theresa wants to know if she really needs lightning protection?
Recommendation - It's more important to install "surge protection" and she can call a Rosie-Certified electrician in her area.
Join Rosie On The House every Saturday Morning!!!
