Farmer Greg discusses growing your own 'food forest'.   How to mimic what nature does in a forest on a smaller scale at your home.

How permaculture uses nature (sun, water, wind) to provide everything your garden needs to aid plants and seeds.

Start by observing the space for your 'forest'.  How the sun hits the space during the year, where the rain falls, shade.  What makes the eastern exposure the best and western exposure the worst.

Greg's tip for sun observation.  The annual dates to observe where the sun is positioned in the sky at Noon for exposure in the space.

Greg's vision of developing a food secure city.

Best way to start a garden is to think small.  How growing one or two projects gets you experience to grow more.  The easiest thing to grow is the most expensive thing at the grocery store.

Greg describes his hedgerow of citrus trees and the two reasons he manages their height.

Greg's tips for planting a hedgerow.  The distance between each tree.  And advantages of planting multiple trees in a triangle shaped hole.  How successive ripening produces fruit at different ripening times.

Another observation tip:  Walking around your neighborhood to see what's growing well.

Building healthy soil.  Desert soil alone won't work.  The need for woody mulch and organic matter make things grow.
