From worst to best:  Aluminum  is the worst quality for heat retention.  Vinyl frames are more energy efficient and 'bang for your buck' but have some issues.  Fiberglass is the strongest with little to no maintenance.  Aluminum Clad wood interior/aluminum clad exterior.

Discussion of sound deadening glass windows.  Including offset glass and laminating glass.

Newer windows keep the dust out.
