If Your honey Can't Do It, Your Handyman Can!
For some people, the words #HoneyDoList are welcomed with vigor. But, for some, those same words conjure up dread and denial! If you are not a person who relishes the challenges of fixing, repairing or installing you might consider hiring a handyman.
Allen Hopkins, owner of Rosie on the House Certified Handyman Connection, says that with so many people home, the calls for a handyman are steady as usual. Homeowners that usually work at an office are forced to take a closer look at their homes. If they are like many of us, once they see that broken cabinet door, lose gate latch, or listen to a running toilet, the need for repair is hard to ignore. Many may find themselves too busy, lacking a certain tool or without the skill needed to manage a repair and decide it is too much for them to handle. Hopkins says, "everyone needs a handyman sometime!" He assures us that his handymen are craftsman equipped with knowledge, skill and ample tools to get any handyman job done. When his craftsmen enter a home for repair, they are equipped with masks, booties and a healthy respect for distancing.
Faster, Easier, Free Estimates
"One thing that has changed", says Hopkins, "is that customers have been sending pictures of their projects and the products they have purchased to do the repair. They send them in and receive a free estimate. If they decide to move forward, the handyman arrives on the job with no surprises and equipped with everything needed."
Handyman trucks are equipped with a craftsman, a vast array of tools and space for large items needed for the job like doors, baseboard, and drywall. They will pick up and bring anything needed but, homeowners have the option to pick out items that have particular specifications of style or function like faucets, fans or disposals.
At this time Hopkins has noticed that homeowners are tending toward having repairs done on the outside of the home. There are many things a handyman can do to help get the exterior of your home in shape and avoid deferring maintenance, like:
- Install window shades
- Assemble a new shed or gazebo
- Redo the ceiling (or lid) of your patio
- Add lighting
- Caulk windows
- Replace weather stripping
- And more!
Whether you are a DIYer or not, a good idea to keep your home in tip top shape is to keep records of your home. Keep a notebook or file folder or download an app to help keep you organized like the Home Zada App. Keep track of what you buy and who does your repairs. Include any warranty information, receipts, photos and more.
With Home Zada you can track many items such as, but not limited to:
- Lightbulbs | Wattage, type and light color for each room
- Locks | Brand and extra keys
- Repairs | Keep receipts and record any products purchased
- Paint | Brand and color and which room it was used in
Recording this information will help save time and save you from having to play the guessing game. Think how much easier it will be for you and your handyman if you already know what you need.
A Few Things To Remember:
Choose Contractors Carefully | The Arizona Registrar of Contractors offers what is called a handyman exemption. It states that jobs under $1,000 do not need a licensed contractor. Further it states 'Generally, if labor and materials exceed $1,000 OR a permit is required (regardless of the price of labor and materials), then a license is required.' It is important to hire someone who respects the dollar limit or has licensing. Handyman Connection, for example holds licenses in electrical, plumbing, repairs, remodeling and carpentry allowing craftsmen to perform work while licensed, bonded and insured.
Keep A List Of Repairs | Keep a running list of items that you would like to have a handyman help you with. Generally, it is more cost effective to have a couple of projects for a handyman to work on in the same trip rather than just one. Handyman Connection does require a minimum charge.
Check Warranties | If products are under warranty it is best to call back the installer. Having someone else work on the house or a product could void a warranty. This would apply to roofs as well as other warrantied products.
