Can I get my electric bill to zero using solar heat? Text

It’s possible to produce so much solar energy for your home that you no longer use any utility-supplied electricity. Most homeowners don’t, though, because it’s expensive to set up a solar collection system that can generate that much electricity.

A typical setup will supply your home with some of its electricity. That will reduce your bills substantially, but won’t bring them down to zero.

Your electric utility will continue to supply your home with the electricity you need beyond what your solar panels generate. And because you’ll still be a customer of your electric utility, you’ll never be without enough electricity, even during cloudy monsoon season, because your home will draw electricity from the electric company whenever the sun isn’t shining on your solar panels.
